Pitch for investors: 5 tips for a successful presentation

A very important step when you are expanding your company is to make a pitch for investors. This can be quite challenging, so it requires special preparation and a lot of planning so as to show investors the reason why they should invest in your business.

To help you be successful in this pursuit, we will give you 5 tips that will guarantee you a great pitch. Have a good time reading it!

1. Catch their attention right at the beginning of the pitch

It is important to catch the investors’ attention right at the beginning of your presentation. The reason is that if they do not show interest at this point, they will probably not pay much attention to what you will present next during the pitch.

Be clear and objective, and distinctly show them the important points of your business. If you use slides in the presentation, make them very attractive – a good idea is to synthesize what your business is and what it means to the market with just a few words or images.

2. Present the problem and how your company solves it

Show them what the main problem is that your company wants to solve, and explain why it exists and how it impacts the market. It is also important to show them what has already been done by other players with regards to this problem – this demonstrates that you have knowledge about your competitors.

After that, show them how your business intends to solve this problem and what your differential advantage is in the market. Finally, once again it is essential for you to be transparent and explain to them, step by step, what solution you are offering and what your niche is.

3. Prepare yourself and practice a lot for the pitch for investors

You need to fully understand everything you will say during the presentation - after all, it is not just about having a good idea, but also knowing how to present them in a way that makes it attractive for investors. So, write a script and practice a lot.

At this point, it is a good idea to ask for the opinion of some consultants or close friends who can give you tips and help you improve your presentation.

4. Have a product to offer, even if it is still unfinished

It is no use to have a loose idea, with no prototype or nothing concrete to be seen. You need to present something tangible, something that has somehow been tested and, through this test, can be exhibited with numbers and results.

Those tests, however, do not have to be perfect. The most important thing is to know how to identify problems in the idea, if that is the case, and have proposals to solve these problems and deliver a successful service or product.

5. Make the investment plans

One of the most significant data to be shown is information on how much it shall cost to make the project possible and what the process will be like. In addition to that, show the investors how the money will be applied: where it will go and how much time it will take to be spent. Furthermore, indicate what return is expected and how it will benefit both the company and the investors.

As we have seen so far, it is necessary to have your whole presentation organized and know how to expose all your ideas when you are giving a pitch for investors if you want to arouse their curiosity and desire to invest in your project. Finally, make sure you listen to what they have to say to you, because their ideas can give you good insights regarding your brand.
